Every so often, something small happens that feels like it deserves to be remembered. Not because it's dramatic or loud, but because it catches you off guard and carries a quiet kind of meaning.
That’s how Her Reverence came to be.
I was walking through the field on my family farm when I noticed a small group of white flowers blooming in the middle of a dry dirt road, far from where the green growth usually flourishes. There was something about them that made me stop. How did they get there, and how did they survive? The white felt especially vivid against the brown earth, with the green in the distance and the bright blue sky above. It felt striking and somehow important. That moment stayed with me.
I didn’t paint it right away, but the memory lingered.
Later, while working on a new canvas, I poured a layer of blue paint without thinking of anything in particular. As I sat with it in quiet meditation, the memory of those flowers from years ago came back with clarity. The colors, the stillness, the feeling of being surprised by beauty in an unexpected place all returned. I realized this was the story the painting wanted to hold.
I'm not especially drawn to realism in my work, but sometimes a moment asks to be seen more clearly. Representation, especially when singled out and applied with intention, can help carry the emotion or symbolism I’m trying to express.
Her Reverence is a 16×20-inch acrylic on canvas that reflects that experience. White speaks to clarity and presence. Red brings a sense of vitality and spirit. Teal offers emotional depth and quiet. Together, they carry the energy of that moment, a quiet reminder that something meaningful can appear when we’re not looking for it.
This painting is a thank you and a way of memorializing a moment that felt both beautiful and instructive. I hope this piece resonates with you in some way.
